You cannot mutate after you have been born. One must gestate very close to a radiation source to actually mutate. That said, one wonders what incredible creations we will have when pregnant people store their phone right next to the fetus tucked into their pant waist?
It is amazing how a passive device like the hyperbolic nozzle cooling tower has come to symbolize nuclear power. I think it was because most of the pictures of Three Mile Island promently featured its cooling towers.
Chernobyl Unit 4 didn’t have hyperbolic nozzle cooling towers. Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant didn’t have hyperbolic nozzle cooling towers. They both featured highly visible damage that could be filmed and shown on the news. Three mile island didn’t have any damage visible from the outside so the looming towers were used for news graphics.
Hyperbolic nozzle cooling towers are used for power plants other than nuclear. They are also used for other types of industrial plants.
I suppose the easiest way for a cartoonist to get to the theme of nuclear power quickly is to draw a hyperbolic nozzle cooling tower.
I’ve heard of people with six fingers but haven’t met one yet. But since 6% of humans have webbed digits like me I have met quite a number of them. some with webbed toes, some with webbed fingers and some with both. Considering this percentage has only increased over generations I am now a true believer in the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis. BTW, I only have a web between the thumb and fore finger, the most common type.

In spite of the three-eyed fish on The Simpsons, radiation has not been shown to cause birth defects. However, it is definitely linked to cancer.
