I see this all the time. People come to northernmost Maine for peace and quiet and others come to raise hell and party late into the night. I live by a large lake where you can listen to the loons all night long, that is if you can hear them over the noise from the party people. Sound really travels over water, and I can often hear the conversations from over a mile away. I prefer the quiet myself.
C2 – We now what Horace is thinking… “You put your right foot in, You take your right foot out, You put your right foot in, And you shake it all about, You do the hokey pokey, And you turn yourself around, That’s what it’s all about"…!
Yup, I try to stay away from the big expensive campers for that very reason. Not all of them are obnoxious, but the bigger the camper/RV the bigger chances they will be. Running a loud generator so they can power their expensive and even louder entertainment center while they enjoy nature? I did bring a small battery operated radio to catch local weather and such. Which with smartphones, not as necessary as it was even ten years ago.
Down in the Flamingo campground in the Everglades they put in electric in one section of the campgrounds, I chose the side without electric and never regretted it for a minute. Much more peaceful. Rode my bike through the electric section and so much noise and chaos. It seemed people were spending more time at camp than enjoying the park.
I purposely didn’t add a TV or entertainment center to my little truck camper, which doesn’t have a generator anyway, because the whole point of camping is to spend more time outside, away from the distractions of the modern world, as much as possible. If I’m just going to watch TV and movies the whole time, I can save a lot of money and stay home.
Why I dislike popular hiking and camping areas because there are always those who just have to bring the noise that I’m hoping not to hear. I want to hear the birds, the wind through the trees, the water, the ocean. The snuffle of a bear….well maybe not that. Heh heh. I don’t understand, why go away if you bring all the home stuff with you?
Seems there’s a chance of amusing yourself with your own chosen soundtrack without bothering others, now that there are wireless earphones that are easy to use.

Drove past a cemetery the other day. It was a near-death experience.

Horace, what’s wrong with you? Don’t you know that you should only roast marshmallows at night?

Ok – let’s let it all out, guys!
I once was at a full volume yodel contest – that was my personal "Near Deaf-experience… (Huh?, ya say? So, you’ve been there, too, I see)
Try to use the elevator next time and don’t get embarrassed about it (I heard a horse did that before in some Leslie Nielsen movie)
That’s dark, horsey (or did the smoke get in my eyes?)

Fresh air. Peace and Quiet. Great View …
… and then you just had to go and ruin it.

They provide the ’In" and “Out” boxes at work and expect you to use them. Looks like Horace has the system all figured out.
