No, raising the debt ceiling is about paying for the car you bought on credit last year.

The cartoon depicts future spending, Jeff. Debt ceiling refers to past spending.

    .

Now, if’n ya wanna talk about spending relative to revenue, that’s a different set of topics altogether.

Stop lying, Republican liar. That is not what the debt ceiling is or how it works. It is patient for debt ALREADY INCURRED. And that is required by the Constitution

The problem is we the country cannot afford it. The grid is in no position to support a conversion to EVs and all Biden is doing is reducing our generation capacity.

Can’t afford NOT to buy it Jeff.

I converted my house to solar, I went online in January.

My electric bill used to be a levelized $230. Now I pay $185 monthly for the solar panels. For six years.

I generated over 2 Megawatts last month. Because I don’t have a storage battery yet I am still hooked to the power company, so I still get a monthly bill.

Last month my bill was a negative $36.

Last month was the best month so far. I am looking forward to the summer.

We can make this work. Have courage.

Raising the the debt ceiling is simply acknowledging your present debt and, by law, must be paid. Next year’s budget is a different issue that should be resolved by a collaborative/cooperative/compromising Congress — as the founders [and 75% of the current population] intended — not obstructed by irrational, emotional, political ideologies that have little to do with reality

When you can make your own money, it doesn’t make any sense to have a debt ceiling.

You may already know this, the perfect car, is one that’s paid for.

What a glow they acquire, when the last payment is made. I try and keep them 10 years at least.

I find it disturbing how many supposedly educated folks either don’t understand the debt ceiling or are purposely posting dangerous misinformation about the debt ceiling. All the “outrage” about the debt is useless. If we don’t pay the “credit card”, every citizen except the ultra-rich will suffer for years. Get it together magas.

that would be accurate IF you had ALREADY purchased the car… the debt we owe…40% of which accrued on the Pu$$y Grabber’s watch…is for items we have ALREADY purchased…but let’s not quibble..let’s just hold the future hostage to make the ‘base’ feel like we are doing something….

This cartoon repeats the lie that the debt ceiling is about new spending. The debt ceiling is about money that’s already been spent; no budget cuts will keep us from hitting the current debt ceiling. Not raising the debt ceiling is the equivalent of declaring bankruptcy and refusing to pay your current debts.

I won’t insult you like some others, Mr. Danziger, but I will join the chorus of critics. As they have said, this isn’t how the debt ceiling works. Maybe you could come up with a clever corrective — like some rich folks surrounded by all sorts of toys (or armaments — that would be more accurate) saying, “What? Pay for it? But we’d have to borrow more money to do that!”

Does Danzinger really not understand that our problem is under taxation of the wealthy and corporations and misplaced overspending on the military and SUBSIDIES to the most profitable companies on the planet, the oil & gas companies? (I thought political cartoonists were supposed to be educated on the issues.) Not raising the ‘debt ceiling’ to fix that issue is like saying NOT paying your credit card will suddenly make you ‘fiscally responsible.’ Republicans raise the debt ceiling when they are in power REPEATEDLY without a care in the world. They are, like always, MASSIVE HYPOCRITES. The raised it THREE times under Trump to cover his giveaway to the top 1%.

The debt ceiling has nothing to do with raising spending. It has to do with servicing the debt on existing loans. The time to complain about that spending was back when we decided to spend the money, not now.

Isn’t it amazing that so many on the Right, mostly elected officials, don’t understand that raising the debt ceiling is to pay for debts already incurred, including a 40% increase in the debt under President Dipped-in-Cheeto- Dust. Still believe in trickle-down economics?
