When I was told more than once by recruiters that if I didn’t have a LI account I wouldn’t get hired, I knew it was time to retire. The company has all my data on their hiring database, but the twinkies in their HR dept still need to see the exact same thing on LI?

Actually… Lincoln Logs were named after Frank Lloyd Wright. It’s a long story.

A couple of things: First, it should be noted that when Abe left for the Blackhawk War with the IL Militia, he was a lieutenant; when he came home he was a private. Not much of a soldier (to his everlasting credit).

Second, he was (to his everlasting shame) not an abolitionist; he thought slavery should be allowed to wither away. He said “If I can save the union by freeing every slave, I will do so. If I can save the the union by freeing no slaves, I will do so”.

For the true hero of the early Republican Party, one must look to Thaddeus Stevens. (Which is not to say that Lincoln was not our 2nd-greatest President.)
