I would have gotten this faster if the orange had been orange instead of yellow.

If this strip really does use a colorist, they need to be fired.

Whether it’s a lemon or an orange being strangled by the apple, I still don’t get the joke … Is it that the juice can be squeezed out of citrus fruits more easily than an apple?

Apple’s putting the squeeze on.

Oranges are yellow until the ripening/paint spray is put on them to change the colour. I have had oranges where they messed up.

Reminds me of a line in “Travelin’ Riverside Blues” (Robert Johnson).

I’m from San Diego and have seen my fair share of orange groves. I have never seen a yellow one. Not even an unripened one.

The orange didn’t prepare enough for the match. Spent too much time contemplating its navel.

With a little linework and color editing this could have been an artiCHOKE gag. Y’all gotta go see the discussion at The Daily Cartoonist. A couple of AMU colorists chime in with replies.

Whoever checked the proof wasn’t in on the joke. I’m like, “You say Tomato, I say Potato?” Apples and Oranges was simply by process of elimination.

Obviously not a very healthy orange. Also thought the apple was tomato.
