Opal you’re already on your knees. Just pick that seed up. You’re acting silly.

This is like trying to get the last grain of rice with a fork.

Can’t let mere reason compete with feelings

I pick up watermelon seeds and similarly thin, slippery or sticky things using a spatula.

Truth is you actually can just go ahead and swallow them. I don’t always but sometimes I do.

Me sweeping up a bottle cap for 5 mins cause I’m too lazy to pick it up…yet it now made me mad it won’t allow me to sweep it in my dustpan. Yeah. It’s like that.

Some things just won’t allow the broom to bully them into the dustpan.

Sometimes you feel you just have to win, no matter what!

What job position Earl retired from we don’t know, but with this posture and talking like this… it must have been management.

Just sweep that seed right out of the door!

They invented the rhoomba (sp?) because they can’t perfect a dustpan – ALWAYS that fricking line of dust!!

Just leave her be, Earl…or you might get a closer look at that broom she’s wielding!

Speaking of spatulas. We have several but I’ve named my favorite. I call him Clark – named after the famous singer.

That’s why I dropped out of school, it was the “principal” of the thing!

A lawyer acquaintance of mine once remarked that when a potential client wishes to lodge a lawsuit based upon “the principle of the thing,” make that client pay cash in advance; that case is guaranteed loser.

I am surprised Roscoe didn’t eat it that seed.

You know Opal, you wouldn’t have this problem if you quit spitting the seeds on the floor in the first place. Even better buy a seedless watermelon. Problem Solved.

She WILL win the battle of the watermelon seed!

Who else has been there … you are using the vacuum cleaner and there is cat/dog fur or a piece of string that is on the carpet that the vacuum cleaner just doesn’t pick up. You reach down pick it up with your hands and then drop it back down on the carpet to give the vacuum cleaner another chance (or 2 … or 3 …).

Opal is as stubborn as they come…

The principle being that you can hurt your back being so darn stubborn

At this point, if she doesn’t get it, the watermelon seed becomes a recurring character in the strip.

Don’t let the watermelon seed win.

She’d rather sweep it up and then scrub out the dust pan, power wash the broom, put them in the sun to dry, wipe up any dust that might have been left behind on the floor where the seed was, launder the dust cloth…

When is the last time you saw a watermelon seed? All the melons now are seedless.
