One of Finn’s favorite spots is in the doorway to the den. He’s little, so he really doesn’t have to move for anyone to get around him, but he always gets up anyway, so as not to miss out on anything.

My cat Rose does this. Always parks herself in such a way that you either have to walk around her or step over her.

This is why I taught my first dog (a really big dog) to go up or down the stairs on command.

Sheep Dog-likes to keep track of the comings and goings of the flock. One person leaving the room causes concern. Two people leave… panic!

Farley needs to be where he can best keep his flock safe and avoid missing out on snack time.

Favorite spot for my Great Pyrenees is half way up (or is it down?) the stairs because that is the best place to see out the front window.

One of mine will just lay there expecting me to step over. I tell her to move and she does.

Dogs have a profound gift for lying down in the way. If it’s not in the doorway, it’s across the stairs or under the table or right behind your chair. My elderly poodle particularly likes lying down on the stairs about 2/3 of the way up, which is especially insidious — just far enough that you’re no longer wary.

That canine is candid enough to lie in the path in order to hog affection.

sadly, when my big boy started laying on the top outdoor step so he could be outdoors but almost indoors at the same time, it was because he was falling ill. The kind that he never recovered from.
