    Where a stalactite from the ceiling of a cave has joined with a stalagmite from the floor of the cave, it actually forms what is called a column.

    Fortunate because the column is white instead of the darker brown color of the stalactites and stalagmites forming next to it?Isn’t that the beginning of racism in B.C.

    That actually is likely not JUST the stalactite. I learned in touring the Lost River Caverns that columns are formed when a stalactite (peak from above) meets a stalagmite (peak from the floor). Of course, they aren’t so ornate as this lovely piece of work!
