I’ve made my grandmas recipes for years. My kids do too so the traditions don’t die off. Growing up in the 40-50’s, there was Chef Boyardee and Spaghetti O’s, TV Finners, Jiffy Pop, Spam, chopped ham salad, and onion dip! LOL
Even with the general criticism and unappetizing list of ingredients, I’m not sensing anything downright inedible. Would eat it if set before me…
And “hotdish” must be a relatively new coinage: ‘70’s and ‘80’s parlance called these things “casseroles”. As in “tater-tot casserole”. Yes, in the Midwest, I was there.
Found a recipe online and then three hours later after I finished scrolling through the webpage I found the list of ingredients and started cooking lol

I’ll try having that for breakfast next morning – it is in such times that being single feels great

If there’s no shoe string fried potatoes, forget about it. Onion straws are also allowed.

That’s gonna be an old can of Franco-American. Didn’t Campbell’s buy them out years ago?

Under no circumstances would I use canned spaghetti. Fresh out of the box, or the dish doesn’t happen, baby!

Hold the canned spaghetti and you might have something palatable. Two different noodle types never work together.

Sounds like a desperation meal to me, throw every redeemable edible thing on hand in a pot.

Chow Mein Noodles… so Mid Century? Just barely predates mandatory Tater Tots. (Still in a parallel universe.)

Any chance that Grandpa Ray passed on to avoid eating that dish. ☺️

Yuck yuck hotdish?

I thought there was a law that a hotdish had to have tater tots.

Yeah, think I’ll let this one just pass on by, but thank you anyway for the image..

Except for the noodles involved, it doesn’t sound bad ingredients-wise. So far…
