We have two cats and a dog and would not trade them for the world’s riches! The joy that they give us cannot be measured. I hope they live forever! :-)

One of my cats. Lucy Katz by name, turned 18 this summer. She has lost her hearing and often seems to be disoriented and confused, but she’s still pretty spry for her age. She might make it to 20.

In the late 80’s it was discovered that taurine is an essential amino acid for cats. It has since been added to commercial cat foods. My cat is nearing 17 years old and still quite active and spry.

A kitten I adopted in 1971 was still alive in 1983. I think she lived one more year.

I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to have sex with anyone imbued with crocodile dung either.

Native American women have used honey and bitter herbs mixed together since at least that long. They did with it what Egyptian women did.

I grew up with cats, it wasn’t unusual for them to live to 10 -15 or more.

I’m afraid to ask how the crocodile dung was used. I need something to scrub my brain now. :-(

So how did crocodile dung work? One of the partners covers themselves in it so the other doesn’t want to be near them? That’ll work.

Someone care to explain how the crocodile dung was used? Or did they just smear it on themselves so the opposite sex would be repelled?

Feral cats on average don’t make it past 5 years. Outdoor cats with humans usually make 7 – 8 years. Indoor – outdoor cats will sometimes get beyond 10 and indoor cats are the 15 – 20 years olds. Our cats are all indoor but we have a catio with perches and shelves, a water fountain, litterbox, and sun protection. Odinsdottir, our NFC and Kei and Yuri, our meezers, also love spending time on the deck in the snowy winter. The cats are 12, (Calico Ragdoll) 10, 10,(Siameseses) 8 (NFC) and 3 (Tuxie). All in good health. Two had their checkups at the beginning of July and the rest are scheduled around Labour Day. Cinnamon had to be imported from Ceylon (Modern day Sri Lanka) or points east. Cinnamon was so highly prized among ancient nations that it was regarded as a gift fit for monarchs and even for a deity; an inscription records the gift of cinnamon and cassia to the temple of Apollo at Miletus. Its source was kept a trade secret in the Mediterranean world for centuries by those in the spice trade, in order to protect their monopoly as suppliers. I had a Tonkinese cat about 30 years ago named Cinnamon. She was spicy.

I’ve heard the first condoms were made from sheep intestines, which really begs the question of who first decided that sheep intestines were the right size and shape for that usage?

But what works to help people live long lives? There was a guy over a hundred interviewed in the newspaper, said his secret was one word, “Whiskey.” Probably his secret was some peculiarity of his genetics. I’d love a health excuse to drink whiskey (I don’t drink alcohol anymore), but…what does work? Exercise and staying busy and involved is supposed to help. A diet free of junk foods helps. What else, do you recommend?

Our cat was 15 when he passed in May this year. We sure do miss him. He alerted us to a noise in our carport in October 2012. Someone had left a newborn baby at the door.
