Finally we see Daphne!

I really enjoy the fact Nate’s in a stable relationship for once. Granted 5th grade relationships aren’t exactly stable so I can’t blame pirece fo rnot having them last forever, Francis is apparently single again, but it’s still sweet to see moments like this. iT’s something fresh in a sea of jokes i’ve seen way too often already.

Aw, how precious! Daphne’s so happy to be reunited with her little hamburger <3 And for Nate, the quote from yesterday ended up being proven true <3 So happy she’s back from camp!

I have SO much to say.

OMG, I did NOT expect this to be so soon! My prediction was so right, it happened earlier!! Gotta credit Peirce with surprising us!

My god, when these two are cute, they are to DIE FOR! It’s like Peirce and the illustrator get the heavy duty tools for them! Last two panels are just UGH, DYING OF SWEET, WENT TO HEAVEN, ANYONE WANT A PIZZA?

Something that sticks out to me: Daphne’s expressions and first words. As I’ve said before, Nate’s girlfriends are regularly presented as way above his league, cool, level headed and affectionate but in a composed way. Rarely (Angie dressing like a cheez doodle, Trudy having an even messier locker) do they show any, well, weird, flawed, or awkward behaviour. That’s why Daphne (who’s had a little bit of it but not a lot) crash hugging Nate, looking like a happy puppy and asking genuinely if he missed her stands out to me. The others would just kiss him on the cheek or something and smirk as he melts. Daphne’s different.

Also love the punchline. I thought he’d stick to the quotes (which could have been cute) but noticing the ceiling shade also feels like a long term punchline to the years of complaining about the school walls!

I’m excited to see how this reunion goes and if we MIGHT get another cute moment or maybe some set up for a story (with Gina, perhaps?)!

As I said before, I hope this is the real thing for those two. I really like to see Nate have a real, normal (as normal as he is capable of) relationship with the right girl (I’m hoping Daphne is “the One”). Though knowing our writer, he’ll come up with a way to ruin things between the two (though if he did, maybe he also then find a way for them to find their way back together, like one of those Hallmark movies).

11/10, all these cute Lab Duo strips are amazing! Mr. Pierce, if you happen to read this, PLEASE don’t break these two up. They are the best couple in the strip!
