Got on a pair like that right now and another pair almost like them to put on after my morning shower! If the heel wears out one sock I toss it and after I wash the good one, thereâs another âLonesome Georgeâ in the sock drawer to make a pair good enough to wear around the house.
Best thing is to buy all white cotton socks and cut off the âsqueezyâ tops. Those tops leave semi-permanent dents in your ankles and then the doctor scolds for your salt intake. Also wear inside out so the smooth side is next to your wrinkled old skinâŠ.and for the sake of all who may be near you do-not use Heel Balm unless you want to stank-up-everything around you. A light dash of Vaseline is enough and see a podiatrist once in a while. AND GET OFF MY LAWN!
One of the traditional Christmas gifts for my spouse is socks â the brighter and sillier the better. When family members go on trips or visit a museum, they bring back âthemedâ socks â frogs from Costa Rica, puffins from Iceland, Viking helmets from Sweden, octopus from the âUnseen Oceanâ traveling exhibit, etc. You can even buy packs of mismatched socks.
When one of our sons had to start wearing compression socks for travel, I found a six-pack of brightly colored compression socks and he loves them. [They also come with different themes â animals, shapes, cartoon characters, etc.] His kids love mismatching their socks. One enjoys decorating them herself â the only one who asks for white socks.
The one thing about socks anymore is that they donât have to be bland for anyone.
Exactly. Several years ago I got rid of all my colored socks and replaced them all with one size, one color â BLACK. No more sorting or matching â one load of laundry, and when done they can just be dumped into the drawer with no further work required. Wish Iâd done it decades earlier!
I wear miss matching socks all the time but nobody can tell because of the jeans I wear.. and if Iâm wearing shorts Iâm usually in sandals or crocs so no socks required for that haha.
My father was color blind. One morning at work, a friend said, âYouâre wearing oe red sock and one green sock.â Dad replied, âYeah, and Iâve got another pair at home just like âem.â
For decades I had been wearing socks almost all the time (back then I actually wore skirts and needed to wear panty hose with them). I would buy the same white ankle socks from the same major department store.
During these Covid years the socks were wearing out like crazy and we were not going out so I could not look to see what was available so I taught myself to darn socks. (Once I read about someone who used standard 6 strand embroidery floss for darning it got â much â easier and quicker. Husband was upset about this and got more so when I had to darn around the original darns.
He needed new underwear (too far gone for me to even think of darning same) and was having trouble finding new. I checked that same store as that was where he used to buy same. While there buying him underwear on sale as we walked through the ladies department with a big âhmmmmâ I stopped in to check if they still carried my socks. Well, they are pretty close, lighter weight, no longer come by the dozen in a bag and only come in packs of 3 in assorted colors â so I now have light and dark blue socks in addition to white â too big a decision to have to make while half asleep in the morning.

Socks may be the same color but if one is over-the-calf and the other is ankle height, thatâs still a mismatch.

Even better, going barefoot as much as possible; no socks at all.

Her Majestyâs Armed Forces deemed that I should wear black socks, and 60 years later I still do, except when the widow Kathleen comes to call
