If you want a free funeral, die out of state. My daughter in law asked NY police to find her missing uncle. She didn’t know they won’t look out of state. When no one claimed the body in NJ, the police never used his ID to find relatives in NY; and they buried him, no charge.

I believe it was in an early Diamond Lil strip where she is talking to the little boy neighbor about her late husband who was late for his own funeral because the hearse threw a rod.
