Had to be sure you read clear to the end before reacting I too took issue with the Far Side dis – tiI got to the end and realized how it was a bass-akward compliment
Frost’s parents moved across a river to a different town when he was a newborn—so the town they moved to considered him an outsider his entire life because he hadn’t been born there. That ’you’re not quite one of us’ surely contributed a lot to poems like the one where he and a neighbor are lifting large rocks to rebuild the old traditional stone fence between their properties, telling his neighbor that his pine cones are never going to sneak over there and eat the guy’s apples, with the neighbor going gruffly, Good fences make good neighbors.
Hey….Hey…Hey….what is wrong with ‘Far Side’ comics? Some are funnier than others just like with any comic strip/panel. There is nothing ‘rare’ about finding a funny one.
You don’t have to laugh out loud at a comic for it to be clever and insightful. A little thought and a lot of appreciation for wit apply to reading Jef Mallett.

I loved ‘The Far Side!’ I still read the reruns on this site. Now, a funny Frazz is rare!

I totally agree with Caulfield.

That poem could have been “Diarrhea of a mad house wife”

As just mentioned in Pearls Before Swine, procrastination is a big part of writing. It was either write poems about nature or rake the leaves.

‘Rare as a funny Far Side’ ???…..thou shalt not cast aspersions on fellow (and far more successful ) cartoonists
the rare ‘Far Sides’ are the UN-funny ones

I would give tanks for a poem like that.

Even from the bottom of a septic pit, one can look up and appreciate the beauty of the stars.

The urge to write is its own sweet compulsion. There is proof that it began ages before modern man. Thank goodness for it.

In real life, Frazz would not be raking the forest, but the drawing is beautiful.

Why does the forest need raking of leaves?

Another strip in which Caulfield doesn’t start the conversation. Way to go!

I was hoping someone would point me to the poem about raking leaves.

Hey, “Far Side” is funny. But not all of them. The hit rate is about the same as any other comic strip, such as “Frazz”.

Probably Robert Frost simply appreciated their beauty instead of wasting time raking them up!

Dice “Buenos noche, Gracie!” “Buenos noche, Gracie!” Frazz, you done peed me off. I’m dropping you.
