There actually ARE plants that are stronger than catnip to cats. Cat Thyme seems to affect them even more (though, based on when I have used it, it tends to make them more affectionate than crazy.) and Silver Vine Fruit will also get a bigger reaction.
We had large tough tuxedo male that we gave catnip to. He would roll around in it, eat it, and generally get high. About a week later, he would roam the house hollering for more catnip. A real junkie. I tried to get him into a 12 step program, but couldn’t find any that took cats.
