You’re under arrest for attempted humor in a comic strip. Hand over your badge. And the rest of you, there will be no fun in this department while I’m chief. Is that clear?
My husband would have gotten the joke, even though he never really watched the show. I was clueless. When I ate cereal with a banana in it I always used my smallest mixing bowl so it would fit without a chance of making a mess. Our regular bowls are too small. Any time my husband saw me eating he’d say I had a “Jethro Bowl”.
Fun Fact: Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett) was originally cast as the Tin Man in the 1939 Wizard of Oz but had to drop out after a dangerous allergic reaction to the tin makeup he had to wear. The part was recast with Jack Haley. But you can still hear Ebsen’s voice on the soundtrack during the chorus parts when they all sing “We’re Off to See the Wizard”. They never rerecorded those parts of the score.

I wonder how many readers saw the comic today and thought “WHO?”. I’m old enough to know cousin Jethro.

For a moment, I though Rob’s collar was a pony-tail and a much lusher goatee.

Y’know, on the show they pronounced it “Bo-deen,” but in real life, the only ones I know pronounced it “Bo-dine.”

That would do it for me. The other Bodines I’ve known weren’t so dumb. Nobody was.
