Quick! Sand!

Be more fun to hand the guy the sign and watch it sink

The sand…

Me never knews why they calls it quick sand when it is devour its prey so slowly.

Quicksand gets the name from the old use of “quick” meaning “alive” or “as if alive”. We see the same usage in “the quick and the dead”, and the old chemical names “quicklime” and “quicksilver” (for liquid mercury). In this context, quick does not imply speed.

I stepped in to quicksand as a child. Sank about three inches and ruined my new sneakers!!

Sometimes, truth in advertising can have a negative effect, which is why in the med commercials the ‘possible side effects’ field is in tiny print and lasts about as long as a puff of smoke. They don’t like to encourage one not to buy.

How about helping the poor schmuck out?

I’ve read where it is impossible for someone to sink completely in quicksand, however I will be willing to bet those who came to that conclusion never made a personal test.
