Well, after yesterday’s stone-skipping non sequitur, it seems we’re back to another decent set-up and joke in today’s strip. Something about an injured Crankshaft seems to bring out abilities Batiuk rarely uses these days.
My daughter massaged my neck, to relieve the whiplash, as I lay in the emergency ward waiting for an x-ray. We didn’t know that two vertebrae were fractured. It felt great, I guess I was lucky.
For once, I’m not going to make fun of this strip, and I’ll actually call its creator Tom Batiuk instead of the sobriquet I usually bestow upon him. (No, I’m not sick.) The reason is that I’m sure a lot of us go through, or have gone through, something similar to what Ed is experiencing. I, myself, have arthritis in my left shoulder, and soreness in my neck, due to my getting older, so I can relate to what Ed’s undergoing.
I’d recommend a cervical collar. It supports the weight of your head so your neck muscles can relax and heal. No, I ’m not a doctor, but I have used a cervical collar.

Okay, Pmm, this calls for desperate measures. Tell him the doctor says the only way to fix the whiplash is to keep breathing!

You don’t want a massage, Ed?!

And if you can’t keep breathing, everything else is incidental.

Oh Ed, just go down to Madam Liu’s Massage Emporium. I’m sure this story will have a happy ending when it is all over.

Nobody told me that getting old comes with a sound track. Mine is cereal, “Snap, Crackle, & Pop.”
