It’s a slippery slope. You can agree to this and then another app will do the same thing and it’s another $3.00, and before you know it you’re shelling out much more!
I said many years ago ‘be careful what you wish for’ when everyone was complaining about cable. Is it any different now? You’re essentially picking your ‘cable’ company (service provider) and a lot of the streaming services offer the exact same things. But to get more you have to pay more – just like cable. I’ll take the commercials because it does allow you a moment to go get something to eat/drink, etc.
The ads are generally too short to bother me, or long enough that I can do something else during them. It’s like the idiot, above, said. The streamers are following the airlines’ race to the bottom wrt price and service.
Yesterday, I finally decided to watch The Office. Comcast says it’s free on Peacock. Peacock wants me to pay $6 a month or more (for no ads). I don’t want to watch it that badly, and I can wait until it comes around again on Comedy Central.
I will watch some sports events on ESPN (or whatever) that have ads. But I ignore the ads / mute the noise / don’t look at them / change the channel for a while.
Anything else – if it has ads I quit watching. Which limits my viewing choices but I truly despise ads.
The streaming services segmented their audiences into such tiny groups that they are having trouble getting enough interest to generate the revenue they need to create and/or license the content they stream and to pay their investors.
Guess I don’t understand the aggravation about ads. I just mute them, do something else for a bit, and then watch again. There are too many other things in life to annoy me to waste teeth grinding on ads.

Do the ads cause you $3 per month of annoyance?

Since when is advertising reasonable, Bub?

I hate the “Its only …” rationale for addons because they just keep adding on “its only…”.

How much am I not interested in TV? I worked for Group W Cable for four years. 100% free for employees. Never signed up.

It’s not extortion – you don’t have to watch TV.

I am down with you Betty! Prime isn’t worth the money NOW. I don’t watch it much. After the ads, it will drop to ZERO.

Except 3/4 of the shows will still have inescapable ads due to the network policies.

I grew up with commercials on TV and radio. I think they’re the lesser of two evils. I don’t subscribe to any services and resent paying for cable.
