I memorized the whole thing in 7th grade to pass history class. In 8th grade I memorized the entire Midnight Ride of Paul Revere to pass history. I only remember the first 4 lines 60 years later. I couldn’t pass tests but I could memorize stuff!
How about something more current? “Read my lips; no new taxes.” “I did not inhale.” "That depends on what your definition of “is” is." “Yuge.” Or, even our current president can help. "“We hold these truths to be self-evident, all men and women are created by the — Go — you know — you know the thing.“
Now, that’s remembering words without the context. The “Ask not…” statement was by John Kennedy, not Abe Lincoln. But, this does show the lack of history awareness in our society.
