Sounds like a wonderful guy. The calculus thing warms my heart especially because I was a history major who took calculus.

Also reminds me of Johnny Smith, a monster jazz guitar player who quit touring and playing in clubs at the peak of his career because his wife died in a car accident. He opted to care for the kids.
