In the 1950s and 1960s, kids could get taps on the bottom of their shoes. A lotta schools banned them.

Approaching with a “warning signal” IS a good idea.

Mom tries to convince herself Alice will mature out of her … quirks. But then she looks at both Peters and comes close to despair,

Why settle for yellow sneakers when you can get them in gold? Only $399.99 a pair, and they’re guaranteed possibly to be manufactured and delivered in 6 to 60 months…

A college friend once told me she could always tell when I was coming from the swishing of my elephant bells (if know what that means, you’re old).

US Air Force Basic Training, the Military Training Instructors (MTIs) all had taps on their boots and shoes. I served 20 years, retired as a Master Sergeant, and Basic Training was 41 years ago. The sound of steel taps on any hard surface floor STILL makes my various sphincters reflexively slam shut.

One of the few times Alice’s self absorption is actually a benefit to others, although the ensuing stampede could do some damage, I suppose.
