I’ve been reading Big Nate since I was eleven myself so many years ago, yet I never quite realized they were staying the same age while I was getting older. They’re just that relatable.

Pointing out the plot holes in your own work is either deeply humble or maximum hubris, I can’t tell which.

I think Nate saying, “Don’t ask me to explain it” is more of a fourth wall breaker than Francis pointing it out.

12 seasons, over 3 decades of the worst baseball team names. Also we still haven’t seen Nate and his team get made fun of for their new name the Cellar Dwellers. That one arc mentioning the new name from a couple years ago only had Nate complaining about it. Personally, I think Cellar Dwellers is kind of a cool name. Probably because lately I’ve been listening to electronic rock / metal project Celldweller.

I’ve been on some bad team names before, nothing as bad as Big Nate’s. I was on Michaelowski Agency, then Paulowski Autobody, then Incredible Oil, then Walton Electric. Looking back on that, those weren’t half bad.

Do the Boston Red Sox ever wish to change their name? Or their sox? What are their chances this year?

Ha! Self-reference in a comic strip! (sort of…). Pierce is not quite breaking the fourth wall, but he is scuffing it up a bit.

In my freshman year in college, my current girl friend lived with about five other girls in the (nicely fixed up) basement of the president’s home, and they called themselves the Cellar Dwellers. I appreciated the joke so much I married her after we graduated.
