Remembering Morrow, 6 years after his sudden and unexpected departure from Tracyville. There’s a short tribute to him on YouTube but I’m being blocked (URL’s not allowed)
In the spirit of Morrow, it’s nice to know I caused big brother a headache!
“Now, put the baby BACK! You’ll have you own eventually, and he mother is calling in the cops! We don’t want TRACY snooping round DW’s illicit baby mill operation,s so we need to look legit!”
Annie debuted in 1924, at ten years old. Later, it was (tongue-in-cheek, but we’re running with it) established her birthday is February 29th, which is why I think modern-day Annie turned 35 this year. But when was she born? 1914 wasn’t a leap year. Was she born in 1912, and comic-strip-time kicked in in ’24, but then it started when she was 12. Was she born in 1884?
OT RANT: My SOUL IS SMARTER THAN I AM (AND IT GLOATS:
I drive a spaceship. Worse, I drive a spaceship that nags me and, I suspect, conspires against me. Let me explain.
In the good old (i.e, sane) days, you could actually work on a car if things went wrong. If the damage was beyond your abilities, you could entrust it to someone covered with grease. That put your mind at ease, as he clearly knew what he was doing.
Not today. No.
First off, my car has 5 — count ’em — 5 positional radars running simultaneously. Should I offend the Overlord by getting too near the edge of a lane, it feels free to advise me of this with strident shriek. It also suffers from separation anxiety. If I leave it with the key fob in my pocket, it loudly complains. And do I really need a computer placed in front of me and decorative trim inside the cabin that lights up at night?
I’m pretty sure my old cars never did this or had an electronic brain. And let’s consider fuses. Old car? Maybe the radio would stop working. You’d replace a single fuse. New car? $6,000,000 to have the computer checked out.
Not to mention an Assist function that activated yesterday as I was serenely plowing through traffic. I was totally unprepared for a female in some distant, dark corporate lair to perkily ask me what my trouble was.
Though I was sorely tempted, I refrained from beginning a lengthy and generally quirky list that would have extended back into early childhood, and simply apologized.
@Charles Ettinger – Panel 2 is a touching piece of art work. I wonder if coincides with the original story so many many years ago? Or did Annie just appear in the original?
John Lustig of last Kiss, has a theory or hypothesis, if you prefer, on why GC has redoubled their (ill fated) efforts at blocking out bound destinations and no, I do not believe it distracts readers away from the strips but actually enhances our enjoyment plus a lot of times the links are not only entertaining but informative and educational as well.

I was expecting a plot twist where she was named “Hortense” or something.

Has this birth scene ever been shown before?
I don’t recall it and I was a Dick Tracy and Little Orphan Annie fan when I was a kid.
Of course, I’m a few weeks shy of 81, and my memory ain’t like it once was.
I also read Terry and the Pirates, and a couple of other long gone strips.

Check it out. It is a really good cartoon, that, like FurBabies, is actually funny
