Most pithy folk sayings are at best “truish”. But if you agree that April showers bring May flowers, that doesn’t mean that ONLY April showers bring flowers, much less May flowers.

Want really early blooms? Try Hellebores [Lenten Rose]. They bloom at the start of Lent and continue until late May.

But, Kid is showing interest in the world around them. Frazz’s likes to encourage that interest whenever and wherever possible.

Crocus is a genus of seasonal flowering plants . They are low growing plants, whose flower stems remain underground, that bear relatively large white, yellow, orange or purple flowers and then become dormant after flowering. They arrived in Europe from Turkey in the 16th century and became valued as an ornamental flowering plant.

Since March, our camellia is in bloom, we have crocus, daffodils, tulips, grape hyacinth, cherry blossoms and many more early flowers each year. I guess May flowers are a different variety.

April flowers, and May flowers. And June flowers, as well as July flowers.

Bloom at their pleasure, for ours.

Another downside to climate change, in between struggling to find something to eat, we´ll have to make up new rhymes.

It’s possible that the old line about April showers and May flowers had some relevance in some latitudes, but it was never universally true — especially in the southern hemisphere.

Is this implying that kids are still learning myths as facts? I hope it’s obvious that it’s false south of the equator.

So much of what we “say” in English is based on Great Britain. England spread its language all over the world, but not its climate or biome.
