When I was a child, I was quite often sick with colds and fever. Each time there was a distinct metallic taste in my mouth. I also had the physical sensation of being stone lying on rubber, or rubber lying on stone. My body parts were as if fragmented, enlarging or shrinking in turns.
Fever dreams were no joke. I had the same one twice when I was a child; the room distorted and stretched like Silly Putty. My fever was 102 degrees at the time.

I’d rather be in and out of opium dreams, I’m told they are the bomb.

I later found some reference to this in Jonathan Miller’s book, “The Body in Question,” pp. 18-20. Several illustrations portray feverish self-images: “In fevers and on the edge of sleep the body image can become exorbitantly distorted (© Andre Kertesz)”

Most of us don’t have such beautiful fever dreams. That’s why we’re on the outside of the ornate cartoonists’ pavilion looking in.

A wonderful work of art — where color, form, meaning all intersect and create greater elements and impacts for the whole.
Wow.
Thank you! : )

I agree with all the comments on how visually stunning today’s panel is (and many of the ones from last couple weeks).

Fever Dreams aroused by ingesting little tabs of illusions and delusions
Intensifying and kelidoscoping colors behind my eyes
Magnifying the sound of the ocean waves and distorting curious voices
Speaking vibrant poems that only I could hear and understand
With the clarity that comes from chemical confusion.
Awake, Morpheus!
