I was getting 50 cents an hour fighting forest fires if they were on crown land and a whopping 75 cents if the fire was on a timber lease back in the early 60’s. Don’t know how old this cartoon strip is but 8 dollars an hour seems reasonable.
My first job (working for the county) was summer of 1964. I made less than $2 an hour. Of course prices were much lower then, and it wasn’t exactly a high-skills job.
I grew up on an Air Force training base in the 60s. The only perk better than the overwhelming supply of young men was the “socials” required of young officers, who had to bring their wives. With roughly 20 teenaged girls ( boys didn’t babysit, they mowed lawns) and 250 young officers, I could get paid better than the base commander.

That’s better than I made when I first started working.

It is easier to change the name than the wage.

Ah, the famous better title with more responsibility but no extra money promotion. I’ve gotten a few of those.

When I did my first babysitting gig I was paid $0.25 per hour. I thought it was good money.

I made a buck per hour when I did babysitting and NO increase for the number of kids!

I think that’s below the national average from what I’ve heard.

Funny how they feel that’s all watching what should be their most precious possession is worth…

Are baby crawling and baby sleeping outdated too?

If you are watching babies, you’re a babysitter. Caregiver is only part of the job.
