Once I visited the National Gallery in London and saw a portrait of Lord Monmouth. At the time, I didn’t know the backstory, so to me it was just another portrait of a long-dead noble. Years later, I read the history behind it:
Lord Monmouth led an uprising against King James back in the day, along with about 400 supporters (I wonder if it took place on a January 6…). He went up against the King’s troops, which numbered about 7000. Not surprisingly, Monmouth got his butt beat. He was later tried for treason, and of course, was found guilty. They sentenced him to execution and lopped his head off.
After he was dead, some genius realized he had never had his portrait painted. So, they sewed his head back onto his body, dressed him up in some fine clothes (with a high-neck collar, of course), propped him up in a chair, and had his portrait done. Then they cut his head back off and stuck him in the ground.
If it’s taught right, history is not only fascinating, it’s downright hysterical.

That’s right, Frank: Speak the truth even at the risk of being pounded into the ground like a tent stake.

You have to admit: he does talk a good line. Too bad he can’t draw one. :)

Kind of wish Frank would show that kind of backbone on a regular basis.
