I have a John Deere hoodie that is 25 years old. It has holes and tears in it and looks miserable. But I would not trade that hoodie for anything this world could offer. It is the most comfortable piece of clothing I have. It is like an old friend that I will never abandon!
I remember when Levi’s made good jeans. I’ve worn them until they were ragged. The more worn, the more comfortable. Now they are made out of thin fabric in Mexico. The last pair I bought didn’t even make it one year.
How I feel about my slippers, the insole’s lining is gone, but still I keep them, always wear them in the house. Soles and uppers are still good, had them for years.
My late husband preferred wearing his old, ratty, torn, disgusting track pants to the new ones I would buy him. He said that the new ones were “good ones” and could not be used for everyday wear.
Nice thought anyway Opal. Your intentions will only get the boring yawn from Earl. Try not to do anything for him because you won’t get thanked at all.
My wife bought me some house shoes, size 13, when we first got married 21 years ago. Sadly, she didn’t know my shoe size was 10-1/2. I still have and still wear them.

They will stay stiff until you wear them.

Maybe you need to be kicked with them first.

Careful, Earl. You’re on a slipper-y slope.

Or are the slippers rejecting your feet?

You would think Earl is old enough to buy his own clothing. His wife should leave him alone with these slippers!

When I was very little, shoes setting on the closet floor seemed to me like the heads of creatures with their mouths agape. Kinda still do, actually.

Let Roscoe chew on them a while. That’ll soften them up.

At least they don’t have bunny ears, like Opal’s.

As long as you’re kicking them off, how about a nice pair of mules?

Maybe the slippers don’t like where his feet have been?

Let her oversize feet break them in for you … she’ll adore you that she earned your trust.

Put them back in the box, and the box on a shelf for a couple of months.. that way you only have to worry about the stiff part.

I always save old shoes for at least a couple of weeks or until I’m sure the new ones work out.

My husband had a pair of ripped old jeans he would not get rid of. I buried him in them.

Face it, the older you get, the more attached you become to your old anything.

You folks realize that teens pay top dollar for rags. I’ve seen kids who looked like their clothes went through a shredder.
