There may be dozens of songs that include references to the platypus but the one I know is by the great Tom Lehrer, singing about the sad story of Oedipus. The last verse is:

Or you may find yourself with a quite complex, complex

And you may end up like Oedipus -

I’d rather marry a duck-billed platypus -

Than end up like old Oedipus Rex.

It’s not quite as weird as the platypus, but the Mexican axolotl is pretty strange, too. I would put Madagascar’s aye-aye in this collection, too.

“Nature has rules, boundaries, and pre-determined roles”….. until it doesn’t.

A venomous, egg-laying mammal. And other oddities…

“Nature has rules, boundaries, and predetermined roles.” Nope, that’s just pareidolia. Or projection. Or some other desperate human attempt to put a veneer of order on the universe. OTOH Platypus Time sounds like a lot of fun, can we schedule Otter Hours afterward?

Nature has but one rule: Exist! All else is up to that which teeters on the edge of existence.

I keep seeing the Platypus Mound and Dr. Bill from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

I need to start using the phrase “platypus time” whenever anything makes no sense. :-D
