I love the holes. They’re all surface area. Fried bread with sugar glaze—how much better can it get?

Hubby was in a Toastmasters humorous speech contest. Came in second to a fellow whose speech was on donut holes.

I was always told that they put the hole in the doughnut so that they will bake evenly.

It’s a marketing ploy so you buy doughnut holes ;-) .

By leaving a hole in the doughnut they can then sell the missing piece to you as a doughnut hole. It’s charging you twice for the same doughnut

It limits how much of a bite to take, without the hole one would be tempted to reach too far and by the time you got to the other side, you would be shorted.

Well, the donuts covered with chocolate or cinnamon are great since you have more covering per donut. Although, when I was younger, I used to go ape over cream filled pastries from the Krispy Kreme.

The practical reason was for them to cook up more evenly.However, who would complain if they just made them bigger and with more frosting…..,,

No hole = soggy donut. Hole lets donut cook nice and firm inside also.

That’s a pretty deep thought for Brutus.

I remember reading a story as a kid that a ship captain invented the hole in the donut. It let him put the donut on the ship’s wheel in an emergency and still keep his treat close by.
