I talked about that topic with my coworker a couple of days ago. I was talking about when they say 30% more. They just mean 30% more air.

The “air” is most likely nitrogen to preserve freshness. And the puffy bag is to cushion the chips during shipping.

Contents sold by weight. But Americans are easily fooled by packaging.

Ah, but all that air acts as a cushion to lessen the risk of crushing the contents.

I miss chips.

It’s moderately crummy.

Optimistic. Perhaps, ‘a chip’. Or, ‘chip dust’.

Packed by weight, not by volume. The air in the package is to act as a shock absorber otherwise all you would get would be a bag of crumbs that are of no use except as a poor substitute for bread crumbs.

The bags are inflated NOT to fool us, but to reduce chip breakage, reduce crushing, etc.
