The only time we had soda with a meal when I was a kid was when we had grape soda when we went out for pizza —at a pizza parlor from a guy with an Italian accent.
I never drank coffee, but I used to drink Pop/Soda for a long time. I gave it up in 2021, it’s the best thing I ever done as I feel better and my stomach doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t drink alcohol anymore (it’s been about 15 years now) and I can say I don’t miss it. Now if I can only eat better. My advice don’t drink Soda even if it’s diet as it isn’t good for you and there a better alternatives to Soda like flavor water with no sugar.
When I was a baby my mother would dip my pacifier in her tea, then in sugar, and then pop it in my mouth. (Is it any wonder I had cavities and last year finally had all of my teeth removed.) As a kid she would pour some milk into my hot tea to cool it. I was in my 20s before I found out that is how it is served in England. Asking for cream or milk at a restaurant used to get me weird looks. Thanks to the import of so many British shows that is no longer the case. BTW this was happening in military towns where there were always people who had been stationed outside the country, so it shouldn’t have been an odd request. They always give a lemon wedge though. I learned young that you do NOT mix lemons and milk…yuck.
I agree. Im doing great. Heart disease, gout, arthritis, ulcers, bad knees, bad feet, overweight, bleeding, eyes gone, hearing gone, insomnia, depression and general sense of disgust with the way our world is run. All the norm now. Thank you salt, sugar, crooked politicians and corrupt judges.
And as with pretty much all rules there are, or should be exceptions. Caffeine in moderate doses (normal coffee yes, Mountian Dew no) is a very effective way for anyone who counts as ADD (misnamed, but it is a reality) to ‘’self medicate’’. It has the opposite effect than with the rest of the populstion, and acts to help the person stay focused on a particular thing (ADD is actually a case of constantly scanning the environment for threats, and opportunities. Very positive trait for Hunter-Gatherers but not so much for assembly line workers).
It starts with coffee…eventually you’ll be one of those fancy espresso drinkers. Then you’ll move on the hard stuff—I am, of course, talking about scones.

The problem with that is anyone can use that excuse for anything they read on the Internet to justify their own opinions

As with all things, check your sources. His is a pretty good source.

“Things that should be true are true.”
I was about to quip that that’s a truism, when I remembered that there are lots of people who believe that things which aren’t true “should be” true.

My father gave me some coffee when I was 8 – it was terrible – and I didn’t touch the stuff again until I was in the military.

most kids don’t need sugar or caffeine, they come with a starter kit of their own

By the age of 12 I knew how to, and was expected to, brew and mix up the household norm of southern sweet tea, a pitcher at a time.

That wasn’t “stuff on the internet”. That was published, reviewed material being cited on the internet.
Very different
