The top person in the organization I work in has decreed that everyone is back in the office full time, starting July 1. Lots of unhappy people, especially those who were hired in positions where they were expecting to always work remotely.
A close friend and associate of The Count does seasonal work as a supervisor/team leader for a group of 8-10 on line workers. Two did not have current/updated software and/or tried to work off their phones or tablets (didnât work) and were constantly on the phone with tech support, several had at home children and one was running a day care out of her house while âworkingâ, two were taking care of at home aging parents, one would log on and disappear for about an hour while she took her child to school, disappearing for longer periods of time for errands, etc was common, and two took off a half hour or so for morning prayers for Ramadan all of which cut into their production quotas. STILL⊠beat the heck out of time and expense and aggravation of driving to/from work and the luxury of being able to work in sweats and t-shirt rather than work clothes.
Working in the office or from home â they both have advantages and disadvantages. WFH you do without the commute and work life balance is a lot better, but youâre isolated. Working from the office gives you interactions with others which leads to better innovation, but yes, you have that horrible commute. I have to say that Iâm in the latter camp mainly due to what I call âinformation by osmosisâ. The number of times Iâve heard someone ask how to do something and realised I can help them. or that someone has said theyâre going to do something and I knew that was incorrect so could warn them. You donât get that working from home so is more inefficient.Thatâs my take on it anyway. I know others will object.
The only attraction to remote work I thought would be to prevent other clerks from constantly interrupting my work flow to correct their frequent mistakes in our computer system. I wanted them to email me when they needed an entry corrected or deleted.

I thought the Wiz worked in his basement lab. Is he showing his age by doing work on the sofa?
