A half empty can of anything, is carefully sealed, goes into my shed, to save having to purchase more the next time I need it.

Some products may not keep, once opened. If I have a can that has gone off, a short trip to our local clean-tip…

I work in a plating shop many, many years ago. An alarm went off if the sewer water got too acidic. We dumped sodium hydroxide into the drain until the alarm stopped. Makeshift. The cadmium plating shorted lives there……

Eh but this what we always does. Pours used theeng down the drains. So how is ya supposed to properly dispose off paint thinners?

It’s not just paint thinner, don’t put leftover paint down the drain either. Oil-based paint is bad but latex paint is even worse. Don’t clean latex paint brushes in your sink. The plastic becomes micro-balls that are with us forever.

The American Way – pour it down the drain and now it’s no longer your problem. ☹️

As most of you have pointed out most municipalities have hazardous waste disposal days where you can bring all the nasty things that shouldn’t be put in the regular garbage or poured down the drain or storm drain.

The best part is the fish that do not die. They get caught and eaten and no one can figure out why Charlie is so ill…

Most counties in the USA have a hazardous waste disposal place.

Fortunately, our city has collections of poisons, and other “how do I get rid of this” type things.

Don’t use oil or solvent based paints. Pure acrylic paints outlast everything except powdercoat.

Time for some aliens to come along and by product toxic waste onto him. No body’s looking.

When I was stationed near Napoli (Italia) in the late 80’s, early 90’s, I was told to be careful of seafood caught near to shore in the bay. I was told that they dumped sewage directly into the bay and fish would come in to eat and the fishermen would come in to catch them there (despite rules saying they shouldn’t). I can’t really confirm that rumor but I can confirm that I’ve never had food poisoning as bad anywhere else I’ve lived.

That being said I also ate a lot of great food there that didn’t make me sick, so there’s that.

It was definitely an educational experience.

Many years ago one of my friends proposed, while 3 sheets to the wind, to change the oil in his Fairmont. He said that he was going to drive the car into the paved alley behind his house and drain the old oil there, on the blacktop. I kicked. I told him that the alley was a public thoroughfare, just the the street where the car was parked. He pondered my objection for a couple of beats and then growled, “Y’r rite. I’ll jus’ drain it rot-cheer.”
