/// Here Glisenti paints two Women Sewing.
Many bright colored items are showing,
and I’m not comprehending.
Are there holes they are mending?
Or is one giant crazy quilt growing?

Fun fact: all those flags you see at the Olympics are handmade.

Two girls work at their jobs as seamstresses
Trying not to stick the pins through their dresses
Oh, how they think it’d be keen
To have a Singer sewing machine …
It would eliminate much of their stresses!
.
Their fingers have to be supple and nimble
It helps to make use of a good thimble
Their boss demands they work quite quick
(He’s a slave-driving pr!ck
Old, fat, bald — hardly a male sex symbol)
.
The working conditions are hard for these lasses
After just a few years they will need glasses
As dim is the shop’s poor daylight
It’s even worse towards dim twilight
Since the boss uses candles not lit gasses

Two seamstresses, seemingly stressed,/
Each trying to prove she’s the best/
Zerlina’s arthritic/
Serafina’s rachitic/
(You’d not care to see them undressed)///

It’s a seemingly placid scene/
So placid,so calm, so serene../
You can’t know the stresses/
Of producing the dresses/
Of society’s crème de la crème..

Designing a dress is an art/
And designers are thought to be smart:/
But folk of “low station”/
Create the creations:/
We don’t get to see the hard part..
