    Don’t feed in summer because I want birds to do their thing and not be dependent on me. Also, not interested in feeding the bears. People are discouraged from doing it for that reason.

    We are surrounded by suburbs, so there is very little native vegetation. We have planted a bunch and it’s finally developed enough the birds have alternatives to feeders. We also let kale and other plants go to seed in the Fall.

    I have all of the ones mentioned, plus was thrilled to see a fawn doing ‘zoomies’ in my back yard this morning! I love living in the country!

    Someone visiting the Smithsonian’s research station on an island in the Panama Canal remarked to one of the scientists that it must be a relief getting back to the real world. The scientist looked at him, held up the tree frog he was holding and said, “This IS the real world.” Quite right, too.
