Looks like “Stretch” Costello’s still with us.

When is the “Guest Writer” tag coming down?

I do not see an ANNIE anniversary tribute today, as someone thought there might be.

For those of you who strongly hinted I was doing spoiler comments this past week, I guess you can skip reading this entire week of strips as according to you, I have already disclosed strip locations, character names, and plot lines to you, so you apparently know the whole weeks story, and may not wish to waste your time reading it again.

Where is Mike? He’s not done a strip since May 18th – yes, it’s been that long! The last storline ran 11 weeks!

Penitentiary? Not a “Correctional Facility” as they are called today?

    Good morning™, everyone!

We haven’t seen the last of Gabriel, I suppose, but combining Double Up and Mumbles and Silver Nitrate and BB-Eyes in the same prison yard seems like asking for trouble.

Suddenly the captions today are bracketed with quote marks, suggesting a mysterious someone narrating this interlude. Is it a character or just Eric putting on Rod Serling airs?

DoubleUp and Mumbles were last seen out on bail. Either they had their bailed revoked or (more likely) lost their respective court cases.

Silver, on the other hand, was last seen in jail as part of a one-week interlude.

Nice to see BB Eyes behind bars where he belongs. Crummy cop killer.

I like the way one story arc seems to be blending into the next. It gives the strip continuity. Good job, Eric!

Time for Silver to call the FBI and offer to help nail somebody even worse than he is. He’s looking like he expects a stiletto in his back any minute

This does, after all, appear to be a segue from one story to the next (as Darwin points out.) Chester Gould did this frequently. Except that we have been informed that a MM is coming up. If they are going into the next story with flair and style, why in the world would they break the momentum with a two week MM???

1- NARRATOR: It looks like Cherry and Sarah have escaped justice…

2: …It appears that attractive women getting away from Tracy has become a theme around here of late…

3: …Let that be a lesson to all you young girl fans of Dick Tracy – both of you – DON’T BE UGLY! Actually, that’s excellent advice to young and old “girls” in general. Now – on with our story. Such as it is. Take it or leave it. I don’t care. I get paid regardless.

For some reason the guy smoking in the last panel reminds me of a Doonsbury charactor (can’t remember which one).

I see characters here who could form a prison choir. They can sing “Jail House Rock” in the state penitentiary talent contest.

“Have you heard? It turns out that DoubleUp prefers blondies. Prefers blondies!”

“Okay DoubleUp, you don’t have to brag about your roomie giving you a blondie. But the joke’s on you – I also heard that tucked at the bottom of the box one brownie that you missed was a double fudge. DOUBLE FUDGE! hahahaha!”

OT: Jut got my second ever (unless you sound an art show certificate with my name misspelled on it) aware. The first was a plaque for Best Comic Book Entry for an early mini-series I drew in the late ’70s, Now the audio book of FISH OUT OF WATER, one of my P.I. books for an award.

No idea who these people are. Evidently some just-starting minor mystery convention. I gather someone submitted it. Can’t complain.
