I don’t think it’s the actual report that bothers Caulfield, I think it’s putting his ideas down in print. I’m thinking if Mrs. Olsen had the class write a book report just one time having her students write the report by hand, in pen, with legible handwriting as being part of the grade, they might not complain so much when the next report is assigned and they can use the computer to write, edit, and print the report out when done.
What book is he talking about? Bible? Koran? Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures? Book of Mormon? Dianetics? All of them feature bizarre surface themes and caricatures.

Daydreamer, meet school! Too bad there’s no creative writing class at Bryson Elementary.

What he just told Frazz would make a great part of a book report. Don’t know why he’s being so stubborn in class…

He reads beyond his years, but likes to maintain a face of resistance to doing normal book reports.

More serious undertones, Caulfield.

He likes talking things out rather than writing them down.

Caulfield’s appreciation of Hiaasen’s work is dead-on.

Hah, you should see the reaction if she asked for extemporaneous verbal book reports!

Caulfield got me started reading Hiaasen’s books.

Mrs Olsen should be saying “What ever you do, don’t write a book report.”
