A naval salute is very different from an Army or Air Force salute: the palm of the hand in facing down. It was developed to hide the tar on their hands, picked up when tugging on the-coated ropes (which abound on sailing vessels).
Sea service wants you to keep your hands too busy to salute. First time you see them today if youâre outside & wearing a hat. Otherwise keep working.
A reference to âsnook-cocking New Criticsâ is where I first learned that the crewâs gesture is known as âcocking a snookâ as well as âthumbing oneâs nose,â or, as I now discover, âgiving the five-finger saluteâ (or four-finger, in this instance).

How about keelhauling then?

Itâs a salute of a sort, though not very complementary.

Coulda been worse⊠they couldâve given Henry the âtwo fingers upâ salute.

Nate as well, huh? Well, I guess he had to take some responsibilities after Seahawkâs disappearance.

Seems to me that there are worse âsalutesâ Henry could be receiving.

Hmmm, Kind of a flashback to how this strip originated.

Given that theyâre pirates, Iâm not sure military rank and order factor into it much. The deadliest one rules the lot, or something like that.
