This is apparently from 1977. There was the Apple II, and yes, the TRS-80, but home computers hadn’t really caught on yet. I wonder if there’s some topical reference that I’m missing.
EVERYBODY: THE JOKE IS THAT YOU DON’T NEED A COMPUTER TO FEED THE DOG.
In 1977 “I’m sorry, our computer is down” was a new and frustrating (but not uncommon) excuse for an interruption of customer services (such as, for instance, trying to buy an airplane ticket over the phone, or paying your electric bill). Feeding the dog is not one of those situations.
Once that was a safe all-purpose excuse. When computers took up a air conditioned room of their own. Now the same statement induced panic attacks among the management and desperate efforts to hide the truth from investors and users.

Your dinner delivery date has been postponed to sometime in January. We’re sorry for the delay.

Snoopy’s supper was computerized in 1977. Peanuts is way ahead of its time.

Doubt if a barber’s family would have a computer in 1977 or even 1987.

In the mid 70s, Gene Roddenberry came to speak at my school. He predicted that in ten years, people would have computers in their homes.
I said to myself, “Yeah, like that’s gonna happen!”

I think the reason VB isn’t feeding him is because Snoopy is banging on the door and not knocking on the door

It would have been worse if the ice cream/milkshake machine was broken.

What kind of computer would be in a house in 1977?

1977? Was it a Commodore PET? I learned to program in BASIC on one of those, it was really fun…

The strange thing is Snoopy’s paws can hold a briefcase, but not a supper dish.

I’m not sure what that has to do with opening a can or pouring out kibble ;)

That could be a problem these days if you get all your pet food from Chewy (or other online source)…
