    Agreed.

But is leaving the right answer?

Or do what we can to get our country back?

In MN we have a bluegrass band called “Pert Near Sandstone”. That would be a nice place to move to, in the bucolic NE Minnesota with woods and farms. Still a blue state, winters are getting milder, and in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, we will have water for the foreseeable future (maybe unlike my relatives who moved to Tucson, I wonder how much water they will have in 50 years).

Carmen is a fiscal conservative who is against the national debt. That branch has been trimmed from the Republican tree. Interest on the debt is now ruling, unstable so it has to keep expanding or it will blow. It’s going to blow.

Look, if you live in a viable democracy, but your side isn’t winning elections, and you’re uncomfortable with the political climate and culture, then leave — if you can — and want — and can find a place that will take you.

I will gladly help anyone pack who wants to leave. Won’t even have to buy me pizza. However, when you realize the other country is as flawed, or worse, than the U.S. you’re on your own for the return trip.

The playbook for transforming a democracy into a autocracy was clear:

Win power with a populist message against elites. Redraw parliamentary districts. Change voting laws. Harass civil society. Pack courts with judges willing to support power grabs. Enrich cronies through corruption. Buy up newspapers and television stations and turn them into right-wing propaganda. Use social media to energize supporters. Wrap it up in an Us versus Them message: Us, the “real” Russians or Hungarians or Americans, against a rotating cast of Them: the migrants, the Muslims, the liberals, the gays, George Soros and on and on.

cons are much, much crueler people than we care to admit to ourselves. trump closed out the campaign with overt racism and calls for ethnic cleansing.

“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.” Ignorance has a price, it’s a hefty one and maga is willing to pay it.

Pity the nation whose people are sheep, and whose shepherds mislead them.

Pity the nation whose leaders are liars, whose sages are silenced, and whose bigots haunt the airwaves.

Pity the nation that raises not its voice, except to praise conquerors and acclaim the bully as hero and aims to rule the world with force and by torture.

Pity the nation that knows no other language but its own and no other culture but its own.Pity the nation whose breath is money and sleeps the sleep of the too well fed.

Pity the nation — oh, pity the people who allow their rights to erode and their freedoms to be washed away.

My country, tears of thee, sweet land of liberty. — “Pity the Nation” by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Both Darrin Bell and Rex Huppke have put out op-eds saying that we can no longer say “this is not who we are.”

We got a pass in 2016 since, for the most part, only New Yorkers knew what a crook he was.

This time, we know who he is.

And we (collectively, of course; I didn’t) voted for arguably the worst person in the country, maybe even the world.

    No excuse this time.

We elected the worst of the worst.

What happened? I blame forty years of neoliberal economic policies enthusiastically adopted by both parties gutting the jobs that paid well along with vast investment by libertarian billionaires in unfettered propaganda media at the local levels to influence elections that feed into the national level.

Seems many here still have not learned that the attitudes of vitriol, hate, and anger actually is the reason for the election results. The dems were the greatest allÿ in this. Keep it up, it’s worked os well so far.

Apparently, I was censored. Let’s see how long this one lasts.

I called out Fern (and others) for demonizing those with whom they disagree. Specifically, Fern likes to call us „demons“ and, apparently the insult name of „Democrat“ Party isn’t sufficient; he goes on to call us „demonrats“.

(We are the Democratic Party; „Democrat“ Party is an insult name that is constantly hurled at us these days)

For as long as Go Comics lets this comment stand, I just want to say, this is specifically what is wrong with today’s Republican Party.

And I hope and pray that, as we regroup to fight back, we never stoop to what we saw in Trump’s campaign, or what we often see as comments on this page.

I’m currently living in Europe, specifically Scotland near one of his golf courses. He is almost (hey, there’s always at least One exception) universily detested here. They are embarassed that he can claim Scottish ancestry. The general reaction to the election result is that the American electorate has collectively lost it’s mind, and “we” have lost all credibility on the world stage. The question I keep hearing is "how can an ingorant, incompetent bufoon who is easily manipulated by “friends” and enemies alike, was the worst president in US history for both domestic and international results, committed what amounts to treason, and is a convicted felon and sexual predator (read rapist) be elected???? Followed immediately by the opinion that the world is f__c___d.

I don’t know how bad it will be—on a scale of awful to disastrous. But because I’m not a woman (especially of child-bearing age), Black, Hispanic, or working-class, the destruction the Big Surrender Monkey will bring to our society will not (largely) affect me personally. So, I’m just going to sit back and laugh at the self-induced suffering those voters have wrought upon themselves.
