I can relate. I used to sit my bass amp behind me to my left on stage. The hearing in my left ear has suffered.

Can tell you that one doesn’t have to be a musician to be hard of hearing.

What?

Since the ’70’s at least. But the ’90’s is what did the damage.

Oh, HE’S not a musician, he just goes to the Rose an Crown and Guitar Bob is playing.

But then again, neither is Guitar Bob ! TWANG !!!

His eyes are also going bad from all the time he spends in front of a mirror.

Guns, tanks, helicopters, saws, hammers etc will do it too.

My dad had a jacket just like that one. He said it was one of the few things he refused to get rid of when he married mom.

I think some commenters missed that his music isn’t necessarily loud, it’s just bad. i.e. his eardrums are rejecting him, not damaged.

Then there’s the deaf mute who fell down a well and broke three fingers yelling for help.

I hear the bass playing in the car radio sitting next to me at a stop light. They are doing a number on their hearing. Had a friend who was an audiologist who would grin and say, “Oh boy! There is a future customer.” ;-)

I didn’t now you could get eardrum transplants. I’m signing up

And a bad drummer.

I have been wearing hearing aids since August, too much loud music in my youth.

“About the same time my ears began to hurt.”

Since Woodstock.

Yeah, but mostly, for most of those things mentioned, noise-blocking ear defenders are worn. How many musicians do you see wearing them? I have seen drummers wearing them, every once in a while.
