Gil doesn’t look so happy about it… And I have NO IDEA who the two people on either side are. Par for the new course, I suppose.

Ok, I’m dropping Thorp. The recent storylines have been disjointed crap for some time now but the new artist is bad, bordering on insult.

As a long-time Thorp reader, I’m rapidly losing interest. Was the illustrator a DEI hire? Thanksgiving is okay, but recently they seem to be sending greetings for every “holiday” out there. I’m waiting for the Groundhog Day greeting next year…

For an interesting comparison, check out last Thanksgiving’s Gil Thorp with this years. Whigham understood line weight, interesting composition and consistency, among many other artistic principles. The new artist’s work looks like something that should be the initial sketch, not the finished product

While the cornucopia of snark is an abundance of unending wealth of riches, let’s take a moment to pause and reflect on the true meaning of the day.

Each year I read the words of Abraham Lincoln’s October 3, 1863 Thanksgiving proclamation and am struck by how true his words are 161 years later:

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God…They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People.
