I let my girls make things, but they understood stuff such as leavening, etc. and they had to make notes on their “recipe”. One of them made a cake that tasted good but was a bit “chewy”. We decided there were too many eggs. (She’d put in three!)

At 13 my mom taught me all the basics of cooking and feeding myself. She said, "There is not a woman alive who will put up with your cr*p so you best learn to live alone. She taught me everything financial, housekeeping. Buying and selling property. taxes. Banking etc. It served me well for another 27 years, until the impossible happened. I found my wife.
