In the U.S. most “wasabi” is a little wasabi root in a paste with a lot of flour. Animals won’t touch it because the odor repels them from six inches away.
I remember that Budweiser commercial with one of the “Wazzup” guys on a date at a Japanese restaurant. When he learns about the wasabi, he keeps saying it the same way they say ”wazzup” while the Japanese workers just yell it out until the man’s date puts a stop to it. I used to do this with my great-nephew when he was a boy.
