and here I was trying to spot the six differences between the panels.

Read a few articles on Ernie Bushmiller’s gag-a-day simplicity but 60 some years ago I just did not appreciate his style as it appeared in Nancy. I will say her Aunt Fritzi Ritz did define her genre decades before 9 Chickweed.

Our hero broke the 4th wall here but 9 Chickweed has gone warp speed through the 4th wall wormhole.

Maybe this strip was drawn after a night of holiday partying?

Reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbs cartoon. All four panels are exactly the same except for the conversation “balloons”. It’s about how some comics are just repeated talking heads.

Busmiller was a master of simplicity – drawing no more detail than was absolutely necessary to frame a joke. I that’s what “Arlo” is getting at today.

Now if this were “Overboard” a comment like that would get you drawn in some kind of uncomfortable situation. Like, in with the sharks, maybe.

Brilliant! By satirizing the idea of the artist being lazy, it allowed him to be lazy!

I nap in my recliner. I think it’s a zero gravity recliner. It fits itself to my head, back, butt, and legs. I mention this only to note, I clasp my hands on my chest like Arlo.

It’s not over until Monday! I still have 48 hours.

OK – I looked up Ernie Bushmiller. Why is the creator of the comic strip “Nancy” referenced in today’s Arlo & Janis?
