This is so us but with one difference. We, and our kids can all get carried away with most any game. Had a nephew say the most fun he had watching a game was when he was with our family, of course it helps if our team wins.
Like religion, spectator sports is a placebo for mental illness. The problem with it is losing is so damed obvious, rendering religion much more effective.
For all our parallels, this is where Arlo & I part company. There is nothing less important – or less interesting – than sports. Particularly spectator sports.
Husband has never really been interested in sports – to play or to watch, even if professional.
Having said that – he has been to two World Series games with the Yankees playing. His dad was in business and someone looking to smooze his dad to do business with him would take his dad out here or there and sometimes “I’ll bring my son, you bring yours.”
We did go once to a (non-series) Mets game with some friends of his from his grad school program. I should have realized where we were sitting from the LOW price of the seats. I am afraid of heights and our seats were in the nosebleed section. Luckily one of the fellows with us was rather tall and on the heavy side. He walked in front of me – slowly – when we were leaving so I could not see how high we were as we left.

Is it possible to get excited over basketball (or soccer, for that matter?)

Is Arlo guilty of enthusiasm?

Not as enthusiastic the older I get although I still enjoy watching. Maybe it’s getting inurred to all the losing my teams do.

The Auburn Tigers play Missouri today at 3pm Central.

Just exactly what kind of excited is she worried about?

As far as I’m concerned, basket ball was only intended to fill the space between football and baseball.

The unspoken answer!

At least not as boring as Golf, Tennis, Football, or Baseball

Probably something Janis did when they were dating because she wanted Arlo to like her. After marrying him, she lost her enthusiasm for such things.

Arlo does not get excited. You want excitement, watch an old Bobby Knight game at Indiana. He mixes chairs with cheers.

Having Janis sit beside him would get him excited even if the game wasn’t on.

Janis, it’s basketball. Not ballet. I would promise not to get too excited over ballet.

Arlo, Arlo, you always lie when working your magic with the ladies. It’s the ole, “we won’t go past first base” thing.

Looks like you’re watching the game alone, Arlo!

with scores of 100 – 110, with 2 points a basket, just call me in at the last 5 minutes.

That last “mute” panel reminds me of the depressing “Jon Arbuckle” comics

Never understood why they insisted on playing on horses in the water by throwing huge balls at them.
