I remember walking into our local farmer’s CO-OP a few years ago to get my chainsaw serviced and they had a STIHL chainsaw with a 65" bar and thinking I did not want to meet the man who used one of those on a daily basis. Big Gus was made for Paul Bunyan.
As a Shaker, Babbitt didn’t patent any of her inventions. She was refused induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame because of the lack of patents, along with Benjamin Franklin.
I want to specify, my “like” of this comic is exclusively for Tabitha Babbitt; the giant chain saw is meh, and the chain saw juggler is dangerous, because though I’m sure he put in hundreds of hours of practice with non-running chain saws, there’s a good chance he’ll inspire less disciplined people to try the same thing.
The Wikipedia article on the circular saw claims that crediting Sarah Babbitt has been mostly discredited. Two factors which might affect that: 1) Wikipedia is far from definitive, and 2) Babbitt, a Shaker, was improving the community’s sawmill, and may have independently come up with the idea. However, there are multiple indications that the invention is much, much older.
Much more impressive would be to see Tabitha wielding Big Gus!

Instead of “RIP,” Ian’s tombstone is simply engraved with the number “106.”

Sarah Babbitt didn’t attend the Annual lnventor’s Ball that year either.
Apparently she didn’t receive the circular.

You don’t ordinarily associate the name ‘Tabitha’ with badass tools.

And Sarah Babbitt received a lifetime of thanks from mustache-twirling villains everywhere

Ian could have put his efforts into doing something useful.

Big Gus chainsaw. It doesn’t appear to be designed to actually saw through anything. Just run and make noise.

Reminds me of the giant saw in “Donkey Kong Country 3.” It’s a ripsaw, but it cuts through two enormous trees at once. Vertically.

I heard Paul Bunyan dumped his axe and switched to Big Gus.
