My wife buys bottled water. I’ve never understood that. Tap water tastes just fine. The bottled stuff is just tap water from another tap somewhere. You pay for the transportation and the plastic and the profit and harm the environment.
Several of the water fountains in our building have separate taps to fill water bottles (i.e. your Nalgene). A display keeps count of how many plastic bottles were saved by filling yours there.
I used to buy flats of bottled water to bring to work. At some point I realized how much plastic waste was created, and bought some very nice Nalgene water bottles and started filling those from the water cooler. Then my work decided they didn’t want to pay for water cooler service, so they installed water filtration bottle fillers around the building. Those are a little further away, but at least I don’t have to carry those big heavy water cooler bottles downstairs anymore.
We definitely need to eliminate single-use plastics like water bottles. Mankind lasted for millennia without them. We can figure out how to do it again.
I put my plastic bottles in a Landfill for the future miners. In the far future, after all the oil is gone, miners will be digging in our old landfills for plastic, aluminum and glass. If they find a swimming pool full of plastic bottles it will be worth a fortune. Yes deposit your old plastic bottles in a Landfill for the Future Miners of America !!!
Had some California folks move out to Va. I was visiting and they started griping that our recycling collection (every other week) wasn’t sufficient. After a bottle of water (we use a Brita pitcher at home), is asked where to put it. “Out in the bin in the garage”. Now, the city of Va Beach provides a 90 Gallon recycle bin, free of charge. If you want, you can buy more. They had 2 in the garage – both slam full of empty (uncrushed) water bottles. Fortunately, I only had to associate with them for a few months.

I use a carafe with a filter and keep refilling from tap (which doesn’t taste good to me).

There are plans for making greenhouses out of used water and soda bottles. Even small houses can be built from them.

PAM! Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Water bottles have a recycle fee on them here. If you throw them away you’re throwing away money. I never use them in any case.

I use tap water. I could never understand buying water in little plastic bottles.

Live in the country. Have a well. Great water!

I will probably toss enough drink mix packages to half fill that pool. But tap water is OK.
